Y’all. Last weekend was the most INSPIRATIONAL few days ever. EVER.
(See what I did there? The tie back to my word for 2014? I know…clever.)
I wish you could have all been there. It was so…well, it’s nearly impossible to find the words.
(Oh, don’t worry. I’m gonna give it my best effort! I mean really, have I ever been at a loss for words?)
Imagine hugging this woman who trusted in God and said yes to His vision and dream for a better world… who made it possible for you to join her in that journey… who has seen firsthand what sustainable income can mean… who laughs and cries and breathes with a love for the oppressed that is so great you can reach out and touch it…
Imagine talking with this woman about her dream of seeing America, about her rise from poverty and oppression and her impact on her community… about the necklace you are wearing that was named for her son and handmade by her artisan group in Uganda… about how you are changing her life, her children’s lives, her family’s and friends’ and neighbors’ lives…
Imagine meeting this woman and hearing her courageous story of international adoption and her beautiful daughter Tessa, who would have been shunned by those in her country because of her handicap and left in her orphanage to grow up alone… Tessa, who now has a forever family…
Imagine sitting with these women, sharing stories about your children and theirs… learning of their desire for justice in an unjust world… realizing that even though they are different in so many ways, they are the same as you…
Imagine knowing that in this vast world you are tiny, quiet, timid… but with God carrying you and having these women beside you, you become larger than life, loud, and BOLD! You can ROAR and others will hear… they will listen…
(Insert a “WOOOO” and goose bumps here.)
So following those FIVE fabulous imaginings, this is what I have to say. This is my ROAR:
Luke 12:48 says, “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”
That’s us, y’all. You and me. We have been given much. That means we have a requirement. A call to action.
“Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.” Isaiah 1:17
So what exactly does that look like?
Well for some, it means feeding the homeless in your town. For others it means mission work in developing countries. I have many new friends for whom it means domestic or international adoption.
For me, it means partnering with Noonday Collection and advocating for the women and children and families associated with the Artisan groups our company works with. It means sharing the facts about fair trade in my community and telling the stories of those impacted by my fair trade purchases.
It means setting an example for my own children to follow.
It means using my voice. And my time. And my purchase power.
What does it look like for you?
If you want to do something but aren’t sure what, just reach out to me. I can show you how hostessing a Noonday Collection trunk show for your family and friends can create opportunity for dignified work and sustainable income around the world and how purchasing from Noonday Collection directly affects so many lives.
Together we can change the world.
You and me.
