International Day of the Girl Child

International Day of the Girl Child

Wow. I love that title. LOVE IT!

And that’s what today is. The International Day of the Girl Child. LOVE IT!

Since 2012, the United Nations marks 11 October as the ‘International Day of the Girl Child’. The day promotes girls’ human rights, highlights gender inequalities that remain between girls and boys and addresses the various forms of discrimination and abuse suffered by girls around the world. This year, the theme is “Empowering adolescent girls: Ending the cycle of violence”.

Read here about ways to get involved celebrating the Girl Child today.

Guys, you too! I don’t have a Girl Child, but I’m raising my boys to be empathetic to others and ever-conscious of what’s happening to people around them. I encourage them – and YOU – to commit to take action against all forms of violence and discrimination faced by women and girls.

Advocate for worldwide gender equality by educating yourself and others! Get engaged with promoting a world where gender equality and women’s empowerment is a reality!
